SAN FRANCISCO – Utah punter
Jack Bouwmeester has been named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. It is the second time Bouwmeester has claimed the award; he also won it in Week 1.
Â
Bouwmeester booted three punts in Utah's win over Weber State this past Saturday, helping the Utes conclude the non-conference schedule with a 3-0 record. The native of Bendigo, Australia, averaged 47 yards on his punts, highlighted by a 60-yard boot along with another punt that went all the way to the Weber State six-yard line. He also continues to hold on PATs and field goal attempts.
Â
On the season, the sophomore leads the Pac-12 and ranks No. 4 nationally with 48.8 yards per punt. His 64-yarder in Week 1 vs. Florida is the eighth-longest of any Power Five punter this season. As a team, Utah ranks ninth in the nation in net punting, which factors in a team's punt yards, touchbacks and return yardage allowed.
Â
A testament to his growth from a season ago, Bouwmeester has sent six of his 13 punts for more than 50 yards after having just one such punt in 2022. Three this season have gone for 60-plus yards.
