Utes in the Pros: Regular Season is Here!

SALT LAKE CITY – Before you know it, temperatures will be cooling off, the leaves changing colors and the days getting shorter. All are signs that the NFL is back—and while the preseason gave us an early opportunity to see former Utes on the professional stage, the real deal has arrived with Week 1 of the regular season.

Twenty-three players on NFL rosters for Week 1 are alumni of the Utah Football program, with 15 on active rosters. Rookies Mohamoud Diabate (Cleveland), Dalton Kincaid (Buffalo) and Clark Phillips III (Atlanta) are all expected to make their regular season debuts this weekend.

All told, nine games on Sunday, plus Monday Night Football, will feature at least one former Ute on an active roster. Along with the player connections to Utah, former Ute Alex Whittingham is underway in his sixth season with the Kansas City Chiefs as defensive quality control coach. Brian Johnson is also back with the Philadelphia Eagles for his third season on staff and first as offensive coordinator.
