Utes in the Pros: Week 8

SALT LAKE CITY – A packed slate of Pro Utes awaits fans on Sunday as 20 Utah Football alumni are expected to suit up for Week 8 of the NFL schedule.

All throughout the league, 27 alumni are on team rosters, including the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Denver's Cody Barton.

The number of Pro Utes grew by one this week after Marquise Blair was signed to the New York Jets' practice squad. Two more former Utes remain active in the coaching world, in Kansas City defensive quality control coach Alex Whittingham as well as Brian Johnson, serving as Washington's assistant head coach and offensive pass game coordinator.

A check of the NFL standings entering Week 8 has Buffalo atop the AFC East with Cole Bishop and Dalton Kincaid helping the Bills to a 5-2 record. Marcus Williams and the Baltimore Ravens (5-2) are tied for the AFC North lead.

In the NFC, Sataoa Laumea's Seattle Seahawks have a 4-3 record to lead the West, while a trio of Pro Utes are also with division leaders. In Detroit, the Lions are tied for the top spot in the North thanks in part to Tim Patrick and Sione Vaki. Down in Atlanta, Clark Phillips III and the Falcons are 4-3 to share the top spot in the South.

Both former Utes now on the sidelines are part of division-leading clubs as well. Alex Whittingham's Chiefs are the lone remaining undefeated team (6-0) and lead the AFC West, while the Commanders are 5-2 to enter the weekend as No. 1 in the NFC East. Brian Johnson's guidance has helped Washington to a 3-0 record at home.
