The Utah men's tennis team is back on the road for the Ed Collins Classic Invitational Tournament in San Diego, Calif. this weekend. The Utes are slated to compete against the San Diego Toreros on Friday, March 15 at 3 p.m. MT. Matches will continue until Sunday, March 17.

LAST TIME OUT
The Utes claimed another victory in their match against LMU on Saturday, March 9 as they defeated the Lions in a close 4-3 match. The action began after the Utes dropped the doubles point at the beginning of the match. Placed in a 1-0 deficit, Utah looked to secure the necessary matches in singles play to claim the victory. The first point for the Utes came on court four where
Gianluca Citadini downed his opponent 6-3, 6-2. Soon after,
Michael Blando also defeated his competition on court six, posting a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 win.
On court three,
Dylan Applegate secured his first singles victory of the season, finishing 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 and awarding Utah the third point. The match was decided on court one where
Bruno Krenn battled into a third set and ultimately took the upper hand, winning 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-4 and clinching the match.
HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
Utah Head CoachÂ
Roeland Brateanu, reigning Pac-12 Coach of the Year, leads the Utes for his tenth season this spring. Under Brateanu's guidance, the Utah men claimed the Pac-12 Champions title as well as finished with a No. 1 ranking in the ITA Mountain Region last spring. Brateanu boasts a 159-93 overall record.
THE UTES
The Utah roster is comprised of seven returning players.Â
Geronimo Espin Busleiman returns to compete for the Utes at the No. 1 spot after an impressive 2023 spring season.Â
Berk Bugarikj  also returns after he boasted an ITA No. 1 ranking in doubles for the Mountain Region last season.Â
Bruno Krenn returns for the Utes, claiming his first victory at the No. 2 spot in the season opener and most recently an impressive 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-4 victory at the No. 1 spot.
Twins
Jayson Blando andÂ
Michael Blando return for their third season with the squad, currently holding a 6-4 doubles record.Â
Geremia Rossi makes a comeback to the team for the third time this spring season, currently has a 4-4 doubles record with partnerÂ
Dylan Applegate. This is Applegate's second season with the Utes.
Gianluca Citadini is the single newcomer for the Utah team. The Argentinian national reached as high as No. 139 on the ITF Junior World Rankings and is a Grade 1 National Tournament Champion in Argentina. Citadini claimed his first regular-season collegiate win in the No. 5 spot at Utah's season opener and another win at the No. 4 spot in Utah's most recent match against LMU.
ED COLLINS CLASSIC
The Ed Collins Classic tournament is set to begin on Friday, March 15 and continue through Sunday, March 17. Hosted in San Diego, the tournament will see competition from Utah, No. 14 San Diego, No. 22 ASU, No. 26 Princeton, No. 75 Texas Tech, SDSU, South Florida, and Tulane.
Utah is set to compete against San Diego on Friday and will continue matches in the winner vs. winner format through Sunday. Depending on the outcome from the first match, the Utes will be up against South Florida or Texas Tech.
SCOUTING THE TOREROS
The No. 14 San Diego Toreros currently post a 10-2 record on the season. Their most recent victories include matches against No. 30 Stanford, No. 21 Oklahoma, and No. 31 Oklahoma State. The Utes have competed against the Toreros four times, with the last match being during the 2021-22 season. This match resulted in a 4-0 loss for Utah.
