SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah men's tennis alum,
Patrik Trhac has earned a wildcard for the main draw at Indian Wells. Trhac will make his first Indian Wells appearance with the first round being Thursday, March 7.Â
"I'm so proud of Patrik [Trhac]," said head coach Roeland Brateanu. "This is a true Cinderella story, for a guy who started at a community college and then played in the Big Sky Conference just to move to the Pac-12 to now playing in the pros. Patrik has made tremendous development and progress and to see him succeed at the next level is no surprise to me. He's the hardest worker and a great person. It couldn't be happening for a better person."Â
Trhac has found success on the ATP Tour raking in 12 doubles tournament titles, eight of which are on the Futures Tour. He also won four of his last six Challenger Tours.Â
Trhac is currently ranked 168th in the world rankings. Most recently Trhac and Seggerman picked up two Challengers Tour tournament titles at Indian Wells.Â
In the Challenger Indian Wells 1, Trhac and Seggerman defeated Thai-Son Kwiatkovski and Alex Lawson 6-2, 7-6 (3) in the finals. In the Challenger Indian Wells 2, the duo defeated Austrailians Thomas Fancutt and Ajeet Rai in three sets picking up the first set 6-4, falling in the second set 3-6 and winning the tiebreak 10-3 to claim the finals title and 12th title overall.Â
Trhac and Seggerman ended the 2023 season winning 10 tournament titles including a streak where the duo went undefeated in seven consecutive tournaments.Â
To end 2023, Trhac and Seggerman competed in two Challengers tournaments in Australia. First the duo made it to the finals in Playford, Australia where they defeated Australian duo, Blake Ellis and Tristan Schoolate 6-3, 7-6 (3).Â
Just a week later in the Sydney Challengers the duo started the tournament defeating the No. 23 ranked player in, Rinky Hijikata and his partner Mac Kiger with 6-4, 6-4 scores. Trhac and Seggermen went on to defeat Ruben Gonzales (No. 172) and JiSung Nam (No. 146) from the Philippines in the finals with 6-4, 6-4 scores.Â
Trhac and Seggerman's hot streak started back in July 2023 where they won the ITF M15 tournament in Lakewood, Calif. where they defeated Alfredo Perez and Jamie Vance 6-2, 6-4 in the finals.Â
Trhac is far from done with his professional career as he plans to keep moving up the ranks and participate in a Slam.Â
"A big goal of mine is to win a Slam," Trhac said. "This year my goal is to make it into the Top 100 in the rankings."
Trhac spent his final year in collegiate tennis as a Ute and was a crucial member to the 2023 Pac-12 Regular Season Championship team. He finished the season ranked No. 49 in the ITA in doubles. He finished the season posting an 18-3 singles record and went undefeated in the Pac-12 with a 6-0 record.Â
Trhac was crucial to the Utes win over Old Dominion in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2023 when he defeated Nicola Vidal 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the match for Utah.Â
"I learned the importance of having a plan and discipline," Trhac said about his time at Utah. "In the collegiate level you have coaches by your side at every practice and at every match. They schedule your workouts, travel and matches for you. On the pro circuit you have to push yourself and plan everything on your own. Having the discipline to do the little things right like sleep, stretching, rehab and prehab exercises to keep the body healthy is something that I found to be very important."
Trhac is the first Ute to play in Indian Wells since 1983 when NCAA Champion Greg Holmes competed.Â
