Award recognizes the most outstanding offensive line unit in college football
SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah football offensive line has been recognized as a member of the Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll, as announced by the Foundation for Teamwork on CBS Sports Network Wednesday night.
Â
The Joe Moore Award recognizes the most outstanding offensive line unit in college football. The award is named after Joe Moore, widely regarded as the best offensive line coach in college football history and is the only major college football award to honor a unit.Â
Â
Led by assistant coach Jim Harding, Utah's offensive line ranks 1st in the FBS in lowest quick pressure rate (5.4%), 3rd in yards before contact (1.58 seconds), 4th in sacks allowed (0.50 spg, 2nd Big 12), 6th in tackles for loss allowed (3.17 pg, 1st Big 12) and 8th in rushing offense (248.2 ypg, 1st Big 12).
Â
Utah's front has been a dominant force through the first six games of the season and has been honored by the Big 12 Conference twice in its weekly awards, earning Offensive Line of the Week after a season-opening win at UCLA and vs. then-No. 21 Arizona State last Saturday. Â
The Utes' big guys up front paved the way to six rushing touchdowns in a 42-10 win over the Sun Devils at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Oct. 11, controlling the line of scrimmage all night on the way to 276 rushing yards.
Â
It was the fifth time in program history Utah has scored at least six rushing touchdowns in one game, while the offensive line also didn't allow a sack to ASU.
