Award presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in college football
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah redshirt sophomore defensive end John Henry Daley has been added to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watchlist, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Thursday.

Daley currently leads FBS football in sacks (6.5) and is tied for the national lead in tackles for loss with 8.5. The Alpine, Utah native is the only Big 12 player this season with at least an assisted sack in every game.

Daley's 25 total tackles lead the Utah defensive line and are tied for second on the team. He also shares the conference lead with two forced fumbles.

The Bednarik Award has been given to the Defensive Player of the Year since 1995 and will be presented for the 31st time in 2025.

Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced on Nov. 11, while the three finalists will be unveiled on Nov. 25. The winner of the award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 11.
