PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Utah men's tennis team started the 2026 season at the ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by Stanford. The Utes battled but ultimately fell 4-1 to No. 3 Stanford.
Stanford started things off by capturing a win at the No. 2 double spot. Utah's Balthazar Huss and
Dante Teramo answered with a 7-6 (5) win at the No. 1 spot defeating Alex Chang and Hudson Rivera. Utah then clinched the doubles point thanks to a win by
AJ Deem and
Emmett Potter who defeated Mark Krupkin and Jagger Leach 7-6 (6) at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Stanford got a quick jump capturing wins at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots. Two Utes battled in their first sets to get tiebreak wins. Simeon Terziev claimed his first set with a 7-6 (4) score over Alez Razeghi at the No. 4 spot. Lorenzo Esquici also claimed his first with a 7-6 (5) score over Hudson Rivera at the No. 3 spot.
The Cardinal then claimed wins at the No. 6 and No. 2 spot to clinch the match. Esquici was up 5-3 in his second set before it was left unfinished.
Utah is now 0-1 overall on the season.
UP NEXT
The Utes will continue ITA's against Rice/Oregon on Jan. 24. Then Utah will host two games at home against Idaho State (Jan. 29) and Northern Arizona (Feb. 1) in the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
