SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis head coach,
Roeland Brateanu has officially announced the signing of Oliver Mesicek, an incoming freshman set to join the Utes for the 2026 season.
"We are super excited to add Oliver to our roster for this year," Brateanu said. "I remember him when he was a little kid when he was our first ever summer camper of the week and had just started playing tennis. It's been fun to see him develop into a four-star recruit. He is a standup guy, straight A student and has maximized his game up until this point."
Mesicek is a four-star recruit from Salt Lake City, Utah. He has ranked as high as No. 68 in the USTA singles rankings and as high as No. 32 in the USTA doubles rankings. He is a 5A State Champion in singles in 2025 and a 5A State Finalist in 2024.
He has won multiple USTA L2 and L3 National and Intermountain Doubles Championships. He is a two-time USTA L3 Intermountain Sectionals singles champion and two-time doubles champion. He claimed multiple titles in the open and sectionals L4 competitions.
Mesicek was ranked No. 1 throughout juniors in the Intermountain Sectionals and the No. 1 in juniors in the state of Utah.
"I've been playing at Eccles Tennis Center since I first started playing," Mesicek said. "I've always dreamed of playing tennis as a Ute. The atmosphere created by the team and coaches is inspiring. It feels like home. Go Utes!"
