Amanda Mergaert is entering her first year as a student coach, helping with the cross country team and distance athletes.
Mergaert, a native of Shelby Township, Mich., competed for the Utes from 2009-13 in cross country and track. During her time at Utah, Mergaert broke four school records, earned five All-American honors, won two conference championships (Mountain West Conference, and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation), and was named all-conference six times. Mergaert also became the first Utah cross country athlete to break the 20:00 six-kilometer mark, posting a career best 19:57.7 at the 2012 NCAA Championships.
Mergaert is pursuing a degree in physiology with a minor in chemistry
