The University of Utah men's tennis team stomped on Sacramento State, blanking them 7-0. The Utes improved their record to 7-11 on the year, winning their last two home matches.
In doubles play, Ben Coates and Phil Rodrigue lead the way. They are currently ranked 15th in the nation, and hold a 19-3 season record. Coates and Rodrigue downed Jason Weiss and Jondon Boyle, 8-5. At No. 2, Kevin Zenger and Trevor Ferguson defeated Chris Smith and Todd Benson, 8-6, while Nik Yip and Ashley Dyer stopped Erik Kontlas and Rob Harris, 8-5 at No. 3.
Utah won all six singles matches without dropping a single set. Coates downed Weiss, 6-0, 6-3, and Rodrigue waxed Kontlas, 6-4, 6-3 in the first two matches. At No. 3, Dyer zipped Smith, 6-2, 6-2, while Ferguson stopped Boyle, 7-6, 6-2 at No. 4. Adam Eke continued his hot streak defeating Benson, 6-3, 6-1, and Zenger won his second straight dual match downing Harris, 6-4, 6-2.
The Utes have only one more match before the end of the season, and the beginning of the WAC Tournament in San Diego, California. Utah travels to Provo on April 13 for the last meeting of the year against BYU. The Cougars defeated the Utes earlier this year, 5-2, on Feb. 15 at the Eccles Tennis Center.
