SALT LAKE CITY _ The University of Utah women's basketball team has signed Katherine McColl, a 6-0 power forward from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. McColl averaged 21.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game last season for Westdale Secondary School. She was also a 1998 first-team all-star. McColl was recruited by nearly 30 American universities, including SMU and UTEP of the Western Athletic Conference. "She was the best power forward and one of the top five players in the province of Ontario last season," says Westdale coach Amos Connolly. "She's an aggressive player who will get after it and work hard. Not only is she effective inside, but she also shoots the three with ease. Utah really got a good one in Katherine." "The real attraction with Katherine is that not is only is she a mature person with great character, but that she's also very strong," says Ute head coach Elaine Elliott. "She's a rower and possesses a very strong upper body. She's a very physical player, and will help us fill a need by giving us more of a physical presence inside."
