SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah has announced its women's basketball schedule for the 1998-99 season. The schedule is highlighted by 14 home games and two appearances on regional cable television.
After opening the regular season on Nov. 14 against Bradley in Peoria, Ill., the Utes begin their home schedule on Nov. 21 against 1998 NCAA Tournament participant Montana at 7:00 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
The Montana game marks the beginning of a five-game home stand, featuring games against Kansas State of the Big 12 Conference on Nov. 28 and long-time rival Colorado State on Dec. 3. The Rams played in the NCAA Tournament last year and will be placed opposite of the Utes in the WAC Mountain Division this season.
Utah faces SMU, another '98 NCAA Tournament participant from the WAC's Mountain Division, on Jan. 5 at 7:00 p.m.
In its final season of WAC play, Utah will be placed in the Pacific Division with Brigham Young, Fresno State, Hawai'i, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State and UTEP.
The Utes' WAC games with Hawai'i on Jan. 17 in the Huntsman Center (12:00 p.m. MST) and on the road at Fresno State on Jan. 23 (12:00 p.m. PST) will be televised regionally by FOX Sports Net. KJZZ-TV will televise the Utah vs. Brigham Young game from the Huntsman Center on Feb. 6 at 3:00 p.m.
Ute head coach Elaine Elliott welcomes back one starter and six letterwinners from last year's team that went 21-5 overall and tied for first place in the WAC Mountain Division with an 11-3 record. The 1998-99 Utah roster features five freshmen and no seniors.
