SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team accepted a bid Sunday night to participate in the NIT. The Utes open play in the 32-team tournament on Thursday at Drake at 7:05 p.m. (CST). The winner of that game will play the winner of the Colorado/ Brigham Young game, played on Thursday in Boulder, Colo., Saturday in the second round.
Drake finished its regular season 18-9 and placed second in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 14-4 record. Utah enters the NIT with a 21-6 record and finished tied for first place in the Western Athletic Conference Pacific Division with a 12-2 mark. Utah bowed out of the WAC Tournament in the quarterfinal round with a 74-57 loss to Rice last Wednesday. Prior to a 52-45 loss to end the regular season at New Mexico on Feb, 27, the Utes had won 12 in a row.
