Salt Lake City - Utah forward Lauren Beckman was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week (Jan. 15-19), marking the first award of her career.
A 6-2 junior from Elko, Nev. (Elko HS), Beckman sparked the Utes to a pair of conference road wins last week. In 16 minutes vs. UNLV on Thursday, Beckman was perfect from the field (3-3) and the free throw line (6-6) en route to a 12-point, eight-rebound performance as the Utes posted a 70-51 victory over the Rebels. She recorded her league-leading fifth double-double of the season with a game-high 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in a 56-47 win at San Diego State on Saturday. A second team All-MWC performer last season, Beckman connected on 6-of-14 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws vs. the Aztecs. She also tallied a career-high four assists vs. SDSU. For the week, Beckman averaged 15.5 points and 11 rebounds per game. After three conference games this season, Beckman is fifth in league scoring (13.7 ppg) and second in league rebounding (10.7 rpg).
