Copenhagen, Denmark - The University of Utah women's basketball team is currently 4-0 on the overseas tour. On Thurs., Aug. 9, the Utes shut-down the Hogsbo BBC team, 91-47, and topped EOS Malbas, 79-42 on Tues., Aug. 7, in Varberg, Sweden. Utah defeated the Danish National Team, 74-45, on Sat., Aug. 4, and 65-51 on Sun., Aug. 5, in Copenhagen, Denmark. For the next three days the team will do some sight-seeing in Oslo, Norway, and play one or two games before returning home on August 13.
Against Hogsbo BBC, Utah's Lindsay Herbert scored 28 points. Lauren Beckman had 19 points, while Erin Gibbons added 15 points. Katherine McColl and Caroline Matthews added nine boards a piece, and Kelsy Stireman recorded five steals. Sarah Wobbe and Amy Bastman each had six assists in the game.
In the win over EOS Malbas, Herbert posted 23 points and Carley Marshall totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Gibbons added 10 points, while Beckman had nine boards. Stireman contributed four steals and five assists to the cause.
In game one vs. the Danish National Team, Utah's Herbert led all scorers with 17 points. Beckman posted 13 points and Marshall added 10 points. Matthews led Utah on the boards with seven rebounds. In game two, Beckman totaled 15 points and eight rebounds, while Herbert added 13 points. Stireman racked up seven steals and four assists, while Matthews added 10 boards.
Under NCAA rules, Division I basketball teams are allowed to make a foreign trip every fourth year. Members of the previous year's team--which excludes incoming student-athletes--are eligible to make the trip. The Utes last made a foreign trip in the summer of 1997.
