COMING UP:
The University of Utah women's basketball team will host Horsholm BBC, a team from Denmark, in an exhibition game at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
A QUICK LOOK AT UTAH:
The Utes return one starter, Kelsy Stireman, and seven letterwinners from last year's squad that went 15-12. Utah has added six newcomers to the roster this season. Possible starters for the Utes in the match-up against Horsholm are: Stireman (Jr., G); Shona Thorburn (Fr., G); Kim Smith (Fr., F); Carley Marshall (Jr., F/C); Hanna Green (Jr., G) and Lana Sitterud (So., G).
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
In 2002, Horsholm finished with a 22-5 record and placed second in the highest Danish women's league. They fell in the semifinals of the national championship. Utah is the first of eight U.S. teams Horsholm will face this fall.
QUOTING ELLIOTT:
On the upcoming exhibition game- "Players love to play games, so these exhibition games are a welcome change from a long practice period. For us, we are young and have a lot to learn. Experience will be our best teacher."
UTES PICKED FOURTH IN MWC PRESEASON POLL:
Utah was picked to finish fourth in the preseason media poll. For the first time in league history, defending conference tournament champion BYU earned top preseason honors with eight first-place votes. Colorado State, which won the regular season crown last season, came in a close second with seven first-place votes and 103 points. New Mexico placed third with one first-place vote and 91 points, followed by Utah (70), UNLV (69), Wyoming (49), San Diego State (31) and Air Force (17).
HUNTSMAN CENTER IMPROVEMENTS:
The original floor of the Jon M. Huntsman Center, which opened its doors in November 1969, was replaced during the late summer and early fall. The scoreboard video display system was also upgraded. Eight high-output dual-stacked projectors were installed with a brightness 2 1/2 times better than the previous system.
