SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Shona Thorburn scored 24 points and Kim Smith added 17 and No. 19 Utah rallied past Southeast Missouri State 76-65 Friday in the first round of the Preseason WNIT.
Thorburn scored 12 of Utah's first 15 points of the second half in the Utes' 17th straight home win.
Jessica Aebi led Southeast Missouri State with 12 points and Kenja White had 11. The Otahkians made 9 of 21 3-point shots and their up-tempo style caught the Utes off-guard as Southeast Missouri led for the first 5:35 of the second half.
The Utes overcame a 52-48 deficit with a 9-0 run that was capped by Smith's 3-pointer with 12:03 to play.
The Otahkians shot better than 50 percent for much of the game but suddenly fell off after White hit a turnaround jumper to cut Utah's lead to 61-60 with 8:03 remaining.
Thorburn made a 3-pointer to spark an 11-0 run and the Utes held Southeast Missouri without a point for nearly six minutes down the stretch.
