SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah women's basketball coach Elaine Elliott today announced that she has received a National Letter of Intent from Shauna Brouillard, a 6-1 power forward from LaSalle Secondary School in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
"Shauna is very strong and powerful," Elliott said. "She certainly fits a need of ours to bulk up our inside game. Her ball handling and face-up skills will allow us to use her as a forward as well as in the post. Her personal goals in Canada Basketball bode well for the motivation she'll bring to this program and the intensity and desire to be the highest caliber competitor."
As team captain in 2002, Brouillard led the Sudbury District Secondary School Athletic Association (SDSSAA) in scoring. Her team won the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA) and city championships, and placed third overall in the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association (OFSAA).
In 1999, 2000 and 2001, Brouillard was the MVP of her high school team and was invited to the Nike All-Canada Camp.
Brouillard will join fellow Canadians Kim Smith, the 2003 Mountain West Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year, and Shona Thorburn, a second-team all-MWC selection, on the team.
