SALT LAKE CITY - Utah forward Kim Smith is one of seven freshmen nationally to be named to the All-Newcomer Team by Full Court Press, The Women's Basketball Journal. Smith averaged 17.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 three-pointers per game.
Earlier this year, Smith was one of four freshmen nationally to be named a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) honorable mention All-American. Smith was also named first-team Freshman All-American by WomensCollegeHoops.com.
Smith was the first player in Mountain West Conference history to be named Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year in the same season. She reached double figures scoring in all but one game, and ranked in the top ten in the MWC in eight statistical categories. She also led Utah in scoring, rebounding, field goals made, field goal percentage, three-point field goals made, three-point field goal percentage and free throws made.
