SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Head Coach Elaine Elliott today announced the hiring of Matt Legerski as an assistant coach for the Ute women's basketball team. Legerski, who served as a team manager for the Utes from 1998-2001, returns to Utah after spending the last year as the third assistant for the men's basketball team at Utah Valley State College. He begins work on June 9.
"Matt did a great job when he was with us two years ago as a manager," Elliott said. "It will be great to have him continue his coaching career back at Utah."
While at UVSC, Legerski coordinated and supervised the strength and conditioning program, provided scouting reports to the head coach, and was responsible for film breakdown of the team, opponents and recruits. He also assisted with individual skill workouts, on-the-floor coaching, in-game charting and live scouting of opponents.
In addition to his coaching duties, Legerski also served as an instructor in the physical education department.
During the 2001-02 school year, Legerski was the boys basketball freshman coach at Rock Springs High School in Wyoming. He was responsible for team selection, organization of all practice and game plans, on-the-floor coaching and travel preparations.
In addition, Legerski volunteered in the off season, implementing and coordinating a postseason strength and conditioning program and player development program.
While with the Utes, Legerski's duties included selected instruction with players in individual and team drills, practicing against players on individual skills, scout team, film breakdown, practice and game setup, travel, equipment inventory and laundry.
Legerski has worked as an instructor at the University of Utah, University of Colorado and University of Wyoming basketball camps.
Legerski earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from Utah in 2001. Prior to that, he attended Western Wyoming Community College, where he was a team captain and two-year letter-winner as a guard.
Legerski is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
