CULIACAN, Mexico - The Canadian Women's National Team fell 77-63 to Cuba at the FIBA Americas Olympic Qualification Tournament this evening. Team Canada falls to 1-1 at the tournament with the loss, while Cuba remains undefeated (2-0).
Utah sophomore Kim Smith scored 10 points on 5-of-6 from the field (83 percent) on the game. She also pulled down six rebounds.
Team Canada trailed by just one point (19-18) at the end of the first quarter, but the Cubans outscored the Canucks 24-15 in the second period to take a 43-33 lead into halftime and never looked back.
The Canadians out-rebounded Cuba 30-27, but commited 23 turnovers, compared to the nine of Cuba.
Team Canada faces the Domincan Republic at 4 p.m. (EDT) tomorrow, Sept. 19. The Canucks defeated the Dominican Republic by 30 points (81-51) at the Pan Am Games in August.
