Utah Women Ranked in Preseason Publications

SALT LAKE CITY - Two of the nation's leading preseason college basketball publications have ranked the University of Utah women's basketball team and junior forward Kim Smith among the nation's elite. Street & Smith's and Lindy's Sports have both released their 2004-05 college basketball preview issues and the Utes are prominent in the women's preview sections.
Street & Smith's rates Utah No. 24 in its preseason ranking. Smith is included in the magazine's "Terrific 10" Preseason All-America team. Lindy's Sports has Utah ranked No. 25. Lindy's lists Smith as a member of the second team in its 2004-05 Preseason All-America Team.
The Utes were 24-7 last season and shared the regular-season Mountain West Conference Championship with a 12-2 mark in league play. Utah opens the exhibition season Nov. 2, hosting a contest with Baden Sports. The Utes play another exhibition game on Nov. 13 against a team of National Women's Basketball League players.
The regular season begins Nov. 19, when Utah hosts Stanford at the Huntsman Center in a battle of nationally-ranked squads. The Cardinal is ranked No. 7 by Street & Smith's and No. 9 by Lindy's.
