SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah basketball fans got their first glimpse of the Ute women Thursday night at the Huntsman Center. Utah scrimmaged for 10 minutes and also took part in a three-point shooting contest and a two-ball contest with the men's team.
Junior forward Kim Smith converted three-of-four attempts from the field, scoring six points and leading the Red team to a 20-13 victory in the abbreviated scrimmage. Sophomore forward Shauna Brouillard also scored six points in the scrimmage, tallying four for the White team and two for the Red.
The Red team converted nine-of-14 from the field, shooting better than 64 percent for the scrimmage. Senior guard Lana Sitterud and sophomore guard Heidi Carlsen each tallied five points and had the only three-pointers of the contest.
The Utah men defeated the Ute women in a three-point shooting contest later in the evening. Meanwhile, junior guard Shona Thorburn teamed up with men's player Justin Hawkins to win the two-ball competition. The evening's festivities wrapped up with an autograph session.
The Utah women open exhibition play Tuesday night, facing Baden Sports in a 7 p.m. contest at the Huntsman Center.
