SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's basketball team will get the exhibition season under way at 7 p.m.Tuesday night at the Huntsman Center, facing a team of former collegiate players. Baden Sports will provide the opposition for the Utes and will feature several former Utes and former Mountain West Conference players.
Two players who completed their eligibility with Utah last season will be on the Baden Sports team. Kelsy Stireman and Carley Marshall will both get to see action in the Huntsman Center once more. Stireman led the Utes in steals last season, while Marshall was the squad's best free-throw shooter.
"It will actually be great to see some more Utah faces," Ute head coach Elaine Elliott said. "It's always great to get together with former players in any fashion."
In addition to seeing some former players, Elliott is anxious to get her squad on the floor against some outside competition.
"It is always important to establish some early-season experiences that allow for better evaluation than playing against yourself," she said.
Along with Stireman and Marshall, other familiar names on the Baden Sports roster include former BYU players Ashley Chamberlain and Lisa Hansen, former UNLV player Kristen Pool and Westminster College product Shari Kelsch.
The Utes will play a second exhibition game on Nov. 13, hosting a group of National Women's Basketball League players. Utah's regular season begins Nov. 19 in a home contest with nationally-ranked Stanford.
Utah was 24-7 last season and shared the Mountain West Conference regular-season championship. The Utes were picked second in the 2004-05 MWC Preseason Poll.
