Utah-IPFW Fast Breaks

Utah Head Coach Elaine Elliott
University of Utah head women's basketball coach Elaine Elliott is in her 22nd season at the helm of the Ute program. Elliott has a career record of 445-182. She is the winningest coach in Utah basketball history. Elliott has led the Utah women to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, eight regular-season conference titles, three divisional crowns and five conference tournament championships.
Elliott has been regarded for years as one of the best women's basketball coaches in the country. She has the longest tenure of any coach in the Mountain West Conference. In 21 years, Elliott has had an astounding 20 winning seasons. She has been named her conference's coach of the year eight different times. Elliott has coached 28 first-team all-conference players and six Players of the Year. Elliott was named the John and Nellie Wooden National Coach of the Year following the 2000- 01 season.
IPFW Head Coach Bruce Patterson
Bruce Patterson is in his fourth season as the head coach of the IPFW women's basketball program. He is in his 15th season as a collegiate head coach.
Patterson holds a record of 23-71 with the Mastodons. His career record is 269-182. Prior to joining the IPFW staff, Patterson was the head coach at the University of Saint Francis, located in Fort Wayne. He compiled a record of 246-111 while at Saint Francis. Patterson's record at Saint Francis inlcudes nine winning seasons in 11 years. He had six 20-win seasons with Saint Francis and four years of 30 or more victories.
Utah Update
Utah dropped a 66-60 decision to Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash. Wednesday night. The Bulldogs shot a blistering 71.4 percent in the first half and used a 9-0 run at the beginning of the second half to take control. The Gonzaga spurt at the beginning of the second half put the Utes down by 19 points. It was the biggest deficit Utah has faced all season.
But the Utes battled back. Utah saw some success from its pressure defense and pulled within five points late in the game, but couldn't get any closer. The Utes had a chance to cut into the deficit more, but Shona Thorburn missed three free throws after being fouled attempting a three-pointer.
Lana Sitterud led the Utes with a team-high 11 points. Thorburn scored 10 and dished out nine assists, while grabbing five steals. Kim Smith scored 10 points. Jessica Perry came off the bench and scored a season- and career-high 10 points.
Scouting IPFW
IPFW is currently 2-9 The Mastodons took a 70-69 victory over in-state rival Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis (IUPUI). IPFW's Ashley Johnson hit a three-pointer with 0.3 seconds remaining in the game to lift the Mastodons over IUPUI.
IPFW got back on the court Thursday, traveling to Northern Colorado. The Mastodons dropped that contest 77-48 to the Bears, who will be the Utes' opponent next Saturday.
The Mastodons trailed by just three, 30-27, at halftime. But UNC pulled away in the second half, outscoring IPFW 47-21 to take the 29-point victory. Verea Bibbs was the only Mastodon in double figures, scoring 13 points.
IPFW is paced by senior Verea . The 6-foot center is averaging 7.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. The Mastodons' leading scorer, however, is Johnson, who is tallying 9.7 points per outing. Courtney Nicley is averaging 8.4 points per game and has started seven games this season, although she came off the bench against IUPUI and Northern Colorado.
