SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's basketball team will begin the 2005-06 campaign in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll. The coaches have slotted Utah at No. 21 in the first official ranking of the season.
The coaches' poll was released earlier this morning. Tennessee, Duke, LSU and Ohio State made up the top four. Rutgers and Georgia were tied for the No. 5 spot, while defending national champion Baylor was No. 7. North Carolina, Connecticut and Stanford rounded out the top 10.
One Utah opponent is ranked in the Top 25. The Utes will face North Carolina State, which came in at No. 24, on Dec. 17 in a tournament in Las Vegas. Utah could also face 15th-ranked Notre Dame during that tournament in Las Vegas, depending on first-round outcomes.

Utah opens its exhibition season Thursday with a 7 p.m. contest against Montana-Western at the Huntsman Center. The Utes have another exhibition Tuesday vs. Baden Sports, before opening the regular season on Nov. 19 against Jacksonville (Ala.) State.
