SALT LAKE CITY -- A panel of experts on ESPN's website has chosen University of Utah forward Kim Smith as one of the top 25 players in the nation.
The panel -- made up of columnist Mechelle Voepel, ESPN's Nancy Lieberman and Beth Mowins and ESPN.com contributor Melanie Jackson -- chose the top five players at each position in all of women's college basketball. Of the wing players, Kim Smith was ranked as one of the top five.
In another section of ESPN.com's preseason women's basketball coverage, Voepel listed Smith as the country's best-kept secret.
Voepel also had praise for Smith and Ute teammate Shona Thorburn during an ESPN.com chat session Monday. She praised Smith's ability to score in many different ways and said she was impressed with Thorburn's scrappy style of play and resourcefulness. Smith and Thorburn were also tabbed as WNBA prospects by Voepel during the chat session.
