Utah vs. New Mexico Fast Breaks
> This is the 54th meeting between Utah and New Mexico on the women's basketball hardwood.
> Utah leads the series 39-14.
> New Mexico has won the last three meetings between the two schools.

Utah Head Coach Elaine Elliott
University of Utah head women's basketball coach Elaine Elliott is in her 22nd season at the helm of the Ute program.
Elliott has a career record of 455-183. She is the winningest coach in Utah basketball history. Elliott has led the Utah women to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, eight regular-season conference titles, three divisional crowns and five conference tournament championships. Elliott has been regarded for years as one of the best women's basketball coaches in the country. She has the longest tenure of any coach in the Mountain West Conference.
In 21 years, Elliott has had an astounding 20 winning seasons. She has been named her conference's coach of the year eight different times. Elliott has coached 28 first-team all-conference players and six Players of the Year.
Elliott was named the John and Nellie Wooden National Coach of the Year following the 2000-01 season.
New Mexico Head Coach Don Flanagan
Don Flanagan is in his 10th season as the head coach of the New Mexico Lobos. He has record of 209-93 at New Mexico.
Flanagan was hired as the fourth head coach in the history of the women's basketball program at the University of New Mexico on April 16, 1995. Before coming to the Lobos, Flanagan left his mark firmly engraved in the annals of New Mexico high school girl's basketball.
Flanagan posted a win-loss record at Eldorado High School in Albuquerque that will never be duplicated in New Mexico. His incredible 401-13 career record in 16 years was good for a winning percentage of 97.0 percent.
Flanagan's accomplishments included 14 different tournament championships, 15 district championships, winning streaks of 77, 74, 69, 66 and 60 games, respectively, and his teams averaged 25 wins a year for 16 years. During those 16 years, Flanagan's teams went undefeated nine times.
Utah Update
It took two overtimes, but Utah finally escaped the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie Thursday night with an 82-79 victory.
Kim Smith scored 11 of her team-high 28 points in the two overtime sessions. She also scored off an offensive rebound with one second remaining in regulation to force overtime.
With 12 seconds remaining, Wyoming missed a jumper, which Smith rebounded. Shona Thorburn pushed the ball up the floor and missed a layup with three seconds remaining. Smith grabbed the rebound, went back up with three Wyoming players all over her and scored. That basket tied the game at 65-65 and pushed the game into overtime. Smith pulled down 13 rebounds to go with her 28 points, tallying her conference-leading 11th double-double.
Shona Thorburn added 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Utes. Lana Sitterud scored 17 points, including 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range.
Smith remains the top rebounder (9.7) in the MWC and is No. 2 in scoring (17.2). Thorburn continues to lead the Mountain West in assists (6.61).
Scouting New Mexico
This season, New Mexico is 18-3 overall and 7-1 in the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos are on a four-game winning streak after falling to UNLV just days after defeating Utah in the first meeting this season.
New Mexico is coming off a 77-69 victory over Air Force. The Lobos were up 43-26 at halftime. The Falcons outscored New Mexico 43-34 in the second half to pull within eight. Lobos' point guard Mandi Moore missed the game with an eye injury.
ESPN2 Cameras Visit Huntsman Center
The Utah women's basketball team will make its third appearance on a national television network Sunday afternoon at the Huntsman Center.
The Utes will be hosting New Mexico in a game with major Mountain West Conference implications at 3 p.m. Sunday. Utah and New Mexico are both 7-1 in MWC action. The winner will be in sole possession of first place in the conference with just five games to play.

Working Overtime
Utah played its first overtime game since last March on Thursday night in Laramie. It was also the Utes' first multiple overtime game since 1997.
Utah's 82-79, double overtime victory over Wyoming Thursday was the first win in multiple overtimes since Jan. 23, 1997 in a 71-64, three overtime win at Rice.
Three Utah women's players played more than 40 minutes in the contest Thursday. Meanwhile, four Wyoming players played 40 minutes or more.
Iron Women
Utah juniors Shona Thorburn and Kim Smith are Nos. 1 and 2 in the Mountain West Conference in minutes played per game. The Ute duo improved upon those numbers greatly Thursday night.
Thorburn and Smith each played all 50 minutes in Utah's double-overtime victory over Wyoming. Thorburn is now averaging 38.22 minutes per game, while Smith sees 37.87 minutes of playing time per contest.
All Over the Charts
Smith and Thorburn are the only players in the Mountain West Conference who are ranked in the top 15 in 12 of 13 Mountain West Conference statistical categories.
Smith is the MWC's leading rebounder (9.7 rpg), top free-throw shooter (.860) and top defensive rebounder (6.52 rpg). She ranks No. 2 in scoring (17.2 ppg), No. 2 in minutes played (37.87), No. 4 in offensive rebounds (3.13 rpg), No. 5 in field-goal percentage (.490), No. 9 in blocked shots (0.65), No. 9 in three-point percentage (.354), No. 11 in assists (2.74), No. 12 in steals (1.52), No. 12 in three-pointers made (1.26).
The only category Smith is not ranked in is assist/turnover ratio.
Thorburn is the league leader in assists (6.61) and minutes played (38.22). She ranks No. 2 in assist/turnover ratio (2.14), No. 4 in scoring (15.1 ppg), No. 4 in defensive rebounds (5.22), No. 5 in three-point field-goal percentage (.374), No. 5 in steals (2.09), No. 7 in three-pointers made (1.48), No. 7 in rebounding (7.1), No. 12 in field-goal percentage (.420), No. 14 in free-throw percentage (.701) and No. 15 in offensive rebounds (1.83).
The only MWC statistical category in which Thorburn does not crack the top 15 is blocks.
