ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Eastman Kodak Company today announced the 2005 NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team.
Ten Kodak/WBCA All-America team members are listed, along with an honorable mention team. Utah juniors Kim Smith and Shona Thorburn are among those listed as honorable mention selections. For Smith, it is her third consecutive Kodak/WBCA Honorable Mention All-America selection. This is Thorburn's first time receiving any All-America accolades.
Shona Thorburn earned her first career All-America recognition, being named to the Kodak/WBCA honorable mention list. |
Smith and Thorburn were the Mountain West Conference Co-Players of the Year this past season. It was Smith's third straight MWC Player of the Year honor and Thorburn's first. Both were also first-team All-MWC selections.
Smith led the Mountain West Conference in scoring and rebounding, while Thorburn paced the league in assists.
Utah was 26-8 in 2004-05. The Utes won a share of the MWC regular season championship, finished as the MWC Tournament runners-up and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
This year's team marks the 31st year of the longest running sponsorship in women's athletics between the WBCA and Kodak. A selection committee representing each of the eight WBCA geographical regions selects ten of the top women's basketball players in the nation to be honored as first-team All-America selections and a group of honorable mentions.
