SALT LAKE CITY - Three University of Utah women's basketball games will be televised nationally on College Sports Television (CSTV) in 2005-06. The Utes' Mountain West Conference schedule was released by the league earlier this week.
In addition to the conference's announcement, the Utes have nearly completed their non-conference schedule for next season. Utah will be adding two more games to an already competitive non-league slate. The Utes' non-conference home schedule includes home games against Jacksonville State, Oregon State, Weber State and Gonzaga. Utah will also make trips to Washington and Eastern Michigan, as well as taking part in a tournament at UNLV. The tournament in Las Vegas features North Carolina State, Notre Dame and Arkansas State.
"We have paid attention to building strength of schedule with our preseason games, and believe this year's schedule gives us the chance to test ourselves early and often," Utah head coach Elaine Elliott said.
Utah opens MWC play with a pair of games which will be televised on CSTV. The Utes will begin action in league play at The Pit against New Mexico, before returning to the Huntsman Center for a matchup with rival BYU.
TCU, the newest member of the conference, will host Utah in an MWC game for the first time on January 28 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Utes will host TCU in a game at the Huntsman Center on March 2, which will also be broadcast on CSTV.
"Our conference schedule affords the opportunity to continue to build our strength of schedule throughout league play," Elliott said. " As always, it will be extremely competitive."
The Utah women's basketball team was 26-8 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Utes won a share of the Mountain West Conference regular-season championship, their ninth conference or division title in the last 10 seasons.
