SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's basketball team is garnering preseason praise from two national college basketball preview magazines. The college basketball previews published by Lindy's and Athlon Sports are both on newsstands now and both have the Utes among the nation's top programs.
Lindy's puts Utah at No. 22 in its preseason ranking. The publication also tabs Ute senior Kim Smith as a Second-Team Preseason All-America performer.
"Utah is, without a doubt, one of the best in the West," the publication states in its assessment of the Utes. "Smith is one of the best in the country."
Meanwhile, Athlon has the Utes slotted at No. 19 in its preseason ranking.
Utah will open the season with a Nov. 3 exhibition contest against Western Montana. The regular season begins Nov. 19 against Jacksonville State at the Huntsman Center.
The Utes were 26-8 last season, winning a share of the Mountain West Conference regular-season championship, and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Elaine Elliott's team returns all but one player off last year's squad.
