> Last year's overtime loss to TCU marked the end of a record-setting run for the Utes, who had won their previous 18 games. It also marked the first loss in the series for Utah, which owns a 2-1 edge. More series information can be found on page 2 of this release.
> Utah is the only team in the country that has not allowed a sack.
> Utah is 1-1 at home this season, beating Northern Arizona (45-7) and losing to Boise State (36-3).
WEDDLE EVERYWHERE Defensive back Eric Weddle, a preseason All-American and the 2005 MWC Defensive Player of the Year, is also a regular contributor on offense and special teams. Information on all the positions Weddle has played, as well as his season and career stats, can be found on page 3 of this release. Utah's 38-7 win over San Diego State showcased Weddle's all-around abilities. He made Utah history by scoring back-to-back offensive and defensive touchdowns from scrimmage (his first touchdown against SDSU came on a two-yard run when he was playing quarterback). Named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week for his three-interception, three-touchdown game, Weddle became the first Ute ever nominated for both offensive and defensive MWC Player of the Week. His two interceptions for touchdowns against the Aztecs tied a school record set back in 1985 by Erroll Tucker. He became one of just four Utes ever to record three interceptions in a game--and the first since Eric Jacobsen did so back in 1987. The very next game, Weddle recorded two interceptions against Boise State to raise his career total to 16--third all-time at Utah.
GRIDBITS Five Utah defenders--Steve Tate (17), Casey Evans (14), Joe Jiannoni (11), Eric Shyne (7) and Paul Soliai (6)--recorded career-high tackle numbers against Boise State ... Utah is 44-24-5 all-time in games played on Thursday ... Utah has five Texas players on its roster, including starters Robert Conley (LaMarque HS) and Brice McCain (Terrell HS). Other Texans on the Ute squad: last year's starting quarterback Brian Johnson (Baytown/Robert E. Lee HS), who is redshirting this year to recover from knee surgery; Joe Dale (Irving/Nimitz HS) and Justin Jones (Marshall HS)... Seven true freshmen have played for the Utes this year: Stevenson Sylvester, R.J. Stanford, Justin Jones, Zeke Wily, Joe Dale, Elijah Wesson and Brady Phillips.
