COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Utah forward Kim Smith has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. The honor also marked her fifth this season and eighth of her career.
Smith, a 6-1 senior from Mission, B.C., recorded a double-double in a 72-50 win over No. 18 and conference-leader BYU. It marked her sixth double-double of the season and the 30th of her career. In the first half, she hit a 3-pointer to cap a 12-2 run, which put Utah up by double figures. Smith also hit a jumper in the second half to spark a decisive 13-1 run, while scoring 11 points and grabbing seven boards to secure the win. Against San Diego State, Smith tallied 26 points in 26 minutes. She scored 20 of her 26 points in the first half, when Utah took control with a 43-17 halftime lead. She also shot an impressive 83.3 percent from the field (10-of-12) in the 78-43 win.
For the week, Smith averaged 23.5 points and 8.0 rebounds, while collecting three assists and five steals. She shot an average of 78.3 percent from the field (18-for-23), including 7-for-9 from the free-throw line (.778).
