The Tipoff
The University of Utah women's basketball team (5-2 overall) is in the middle of a three-game road swing as it takes on USC in Los Angeles on Monday night. Tipoff in the Galen Center is set for 7 p.m. (PT). Utah comes in to L.A. on a four-game winning streak, and it is on the heels of an 82-58 road win at Fresno State last Saturday. USC enters the game with a 3-2 mark.
This game will be broadcast on 97.5 The Oasis with Chris Tunis calling the action. It can also be followed on www.UtahUtes.com with live stats and audio streaming.
Scouting the Opponent
The Women of Troy come to Monday's game with a 3-2 overall mark, having just beat Cal State Fullerton, 104-77, on Friday. Looking at the numbers, Monday's contest should be an offensive feast. While Utah is shooting .487 from the floor, USC is shooting a not-too-shabby .455. Both teams average 70-plus points per game as well. USC has two players averaging in double-figure scoring numbers, led by the 12.0 points-per-game output of Camille LeNoir. Nadia Parker is the team's top rebounder with a 6.4 rebounds-per-game average. Mark Trakh is in his fourth year at USC where he is 57-36. Trakh has been a head coach for 15 years, and he boasts an all-time record of 256-159.
A Brief Look at the Series
This will be only the seventh meeting between Utah and USC on the women's hardwood. The Women of Troy hold the all-time series lead, 4-2. However, Utah was the victor in the last meeting. It toppled the Trojans, 70-66, when they met in Salt Lake City in December of last year. Utah has played all 10 members of the Pacific 10, and it is 46-45 all-time against the league. The last time Utah met a Pac 10 school was on Nov. 18 of this year. It fell to then-No. 5/5 Stanford at home in a double-overtime thriller, 81-77.
