The Tipoff
The University of Utah women's basketball team (5-3 overall) wraps up its three-game road swing this weekend when it plays at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, Dec. 8. Tipoff in Williams Arena is set for noon (CT). Utah saw its four-game winning streak snapped in its last contest as USC held the Utes at bay in garnering the 62-45 win in the Galen Center. The Golden Gophers have won two of their last three games, including an 80-66 win over Charlotte in their last outing. They are 8-2 overall for the season.

Scouting the Opponent
The Golden Gophers come into the game on Saturday with an 8-2 overall mark. They have won in two of their last three, and they are on the heels of an 80-66 win over Charlotte on Dec. 2. They shoot .413 from the floor, ranking seventh in the Big Ten, and average 70.5 points per game, ranking fourth in the league. The Golden Gophers have two players that average double-figure scoring numbers. Emily Fox is their leading scorer with 17.6 points per game, while Ashley Ellis-Milan is second with 10.7 points. UM' top rebounder is Ellis-Milan at 8.5 boards per game. Pam Borton is in her sixth year on the bench at Minnesota. She is 120-51 at UM, and she owns a 189-97 all-time record in 10 years of coaching.
A Brief Look at the Series
The Minnesota game marks the fourth time Utah is facing a first-time opponent this season. The other new faces this year were Marist, Akron and South Dakota State. Utah is 2-1 against new opponents this season. Utah has played six (Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State and Wisconsin) of the 11 teams in the Big Ten. The Utes are a combined 7-7 all-time against them. They played two Big Ten schools last year, going 1-1 in those games. While the Crimson and White defeated Northwestern last year, 80-69, the Utes fell to Illinois in the second round of the WNIT, 59-48.
