Utah Hosts UNLV Thursday Night
The University of Utah women's basketball team hosts UNLV Thursday night at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The Utes are coming off a 64-49 win over Colorado State Saturday.
Utah snapped a three-game losing streak with the win over the Rams. The Utes will look to remain in second place or move into a tie for first place in the MWC with a victory.
UNLV enters Thursday's game with a 10-13 overall record and a 4-7 mark in Mountain West Conference play. The Lady Rebels have lost three straight and six of their last eight.
UNLV's last outing was an 85-59 loss at Wyoming. The Lady Rebels also dropped a 67-54 decision at San Diego State last week.
Utah defeated UNLV 49-37 back on Jan. 13 in Las Vegas. Both teams struggled mightily on offense in that contest.
Utah Fast Breaks
? Utah has out-rebounded its opponents in 20 of 24 games this season.
? Utah holds an average rebound margin of +6.6 per game, which ranks No. 1 in the MWC and No. 25 in the nation.
? Utah is now 9-1 this season when scoring 66 points or more, after losing 71-66 at San Diego State on Feb. 3. The Utes have only reached 66 once in their last five outings.
? The Utes are 6-0 when holding opponents below 50 points.
? The Utes have been the best free-throw shooting team since conference play began, converting at a rate of .847 from the charity stripe.
? Utah's field-goal percentage defense in MWC play (.356) is tops in the conference.
Streak Snapped
Coming into last Saturday's contest with Colorado State, Utah was on a three-game losing streak. The Utes hadn't lost three consecutive contests since the 2001-02 season. Coincidentally, that was also the last season in which Utah had not reached the 20-win plateau. In Elaine Elliott's 24-year tenure as head coach, Utah has only had 10 losing streaks of three games or more.
