But Montgomery was starting to heat up for New Mexico. She answered Carlsen's triple with one of her own, sparking a 10-3 run. Utah still had a double-digit lead with 7:13 remaining when Marie Warner (Jr., Hamilton, Ont.) hit a pair of free throws for Utah to make it 55-45.

But the Utes missed their next four field-goal attempts. Meanwhile, two Julie Briody free throws pulled New Mexico back within one. Montgomery followed with her fourth three-pointer of the game to give the Lobos a 63-61 lead, one they would not relinquish.
New Mexico got a pair of free throws from Dionne Marsh and Montgomery with less than one minute remaining to grab a 67-61 edge before Utah scored again. New Mexico converted 10-of-10 from the free-throw line in the final minute to ice the eight-point victory. The Lobos were 31-of-34 from the stripe in the contest.
Montgomery's 22-point second half equaled her previous career-high for a game. Briody added 16 and Marsh tacked on 13 for New Mexico. Warner scored a career-high 23 points off the bench for Utah. Morgan Warburton (Soph., Helper, Utah) added 17 for the Utes.
