SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's basketball team has earned a berth and a home game in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). The Utes will host Montana in a 7 p.m. contest Wednesday at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Ticket prices for Wednesday's game are as follows: Adult Reserved - $6; Student Reserved - $4; Adult General Admission - $4; Student General Admission - $3. Tickets may be purchased by calling 801-581-UTIX or at the Utah Ticket Office, located at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
This is Utah's first appearance in the WNIT since 1999 and the Utes' fourth appearance in the postseason tournament. Utah dropped a 70-62 decision to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in its last appearance. The Utes are 1-6 all-time in WNIT play. This is the first time Utah has hosted a WNIT game.
For the first time, each of the nation's 31 conferences will be represented in the WNIT. The tournament expanded to 48 teams this year to accommodate an automatic berth for each of the conferences.
The WNIT kicks off postseason action Wednesday, with first-round games. Sixteen teams will play in that round, and then feed into 16 second-round games. All games throughout the tournament are held on the campuses of participating schools, and no seeds are designated.
