SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah head women's basketball coach Elaine Elliott was honored by the Salt Lake County Mayor and Council Tuesday afternoon. The county mayor and council placed a resolution honoring Elliott into permanent record during the council's regular weekly meeting.
Salt Lake County Councilman David Wilde submitted the commemorative resolution to the Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon and the rest of the council. Wilde gave a speech, honoring Elliott during the meeting. Corroon then read the resolution and placed it into public record.
Wilde wanted to congratulate and honor Elliott's 500th victory earlier this season with the resolution. He also mentioned her numerous coach of the year awards and successful seasons in the document.
"I am very honored that the County Council would see fit to recognize me in such a way," Elliott said. "It was a privilege to accept the resolution in person from a great Utah Man like Councilman Wilde."
Elliott was present for reading of the resolution. Following the meeting she was given a plaque to commemorate the occasion and a signed, sealed copy of the resolution. In addition to Coach Elliott, University of Utah Director of Athletics Dr. Chris Hill was also in attendance.
Elliott recently completed her 24th season as the head coach of the Utah women's basketball program. She recorded her 500th victory on Jan. 11, 2007 in a victory at Colorado State. Elliott's overall record stands at 509-207. She has had 23 winning seasons and 17 20-win seasons in 24 years as head coach of the Utes.
