SALT LAKE CITY -University of Utah women's basketball head coach Elaine Elliott has announced a tentative non-conference schedule that features eight dates in the Huntsman Center, including a home game against perennial power Stanford.
"We feel like we have a good balance of home and away games for the 2007 season," said Elliott. "We think that it will give us a solid RPI rating that will help us reach our goal of returning to the NCAA Tournament."
Stanford comes to town on Nov. 18 as the two rivals duel for the third time in the last four years. Also on the home docket are in-state rivals Utah State (Dec. 15) and Weber State (Dec. 21). Utah has won 11 of the last 12 match ups against Weber State while it renews a rivalry with Utah State that has been dormant since the 1986-87 campaign.
Highlighting the road games will be the Oahu Classic in Hawaii. Utah will hit the islands Nov. 22-24 for an eight-team tournament. Road games also include dates at Fresno State (Dec. 1), USC (Dec. 3) and Long Beach State (Dec. 29).
There is a strong California flavor to the 2007 non-conference schedule. In addition to Fresno State, USC and Long Beach State, the Utes host UC-Irvine (Nov. 15) and Saint Mary's College (Dec. 19).
Utah went 19-14 last year and finished 10-6 in Mountain West Conference action. All-conference honorees Morgan Warburton and Kalee Whipple return from that team which advanced to the second round of the Women's NIT.
