SALT LAKE CITY - The road to the Mountain West Conference Tournament and beyond has been set as University of Utah women's basketball head coach Elaine Elliott announced the entire 2007-08 schedule this afternoon.
Four games have been selected for television thus far. Utah's home game with Brigham Young (Feb. 19) will air on CSTV while the Stanford (Nov. 18), at BYU (Jan. 19) and Wyoming (March 2) games will be televised on The mtn.
The schedule includes 17 home dates at the Huntsman Center and it all begins with exhibition games against Western Montana on Nov. 3 and Fort Lewis on Nov. 6.
The regular season opens at home as half of the games in November are on the Huntsman hardwood. The season-opener is at home and pits Utah against UC Irvine (Nov. 15). The Crimson and White also have home dates against perennial power Stanford and South Dakota (Nov. 28). The lone road swing in November takes the Utes to the tropics to participate in the Oahu Classic on Nov. 22-24. Other teams in the tournament include Nebraska, Marist, Mississippi State, Louisville, Akron, Eastern Washington and Fairfield.
December begins with the Utes on the road as a three-game road swing takes them to Fresno State (Dec. 1), USC (Dec. 3) and to Minnesota (Dec. 8). That is followed by a three-game homestand that includes in-state rivals Utah State (Dec. 15) and Weber State (Dec. 21). Those two games are sandwiched around a home date against Saint Mary's College on Dec. 19. The month concludes with a road tilt at Long Beach State on Dec. 29.
January sees the end of the non-conference schedule when Utah hosts Eastern Michigan on Jan. 4. The Mountain West Conference schedule begins shortly thereafter with Utah on the road at Air Force on Jan. 9. After a weekend off, Utah returns to action when they host the first MWC game of the year. San Diego State comes to town on Jan 16 and then Utah returns to the road again to play at BYU (Jan. 19). New Mexico (Jan. 23) comes to Utah before the Utes hit the road to play at TCU (Jan. 26) and at Wyoming (Jan. 30). Wyoming is the defending WNIT champion.
A home game with Colorado State (Feb. 2) and at UNLV (Feb. 6) completes Utah's first round through the league. It's second time around begins when the Utes host Air Force (Feb. 9). A road game at SDSU (Feb. 16) is followed by a tough stretch as Utah has to play BYU (at home on Feb. 19) and at New Mexico (Feb.23). Then it returns home to host TCU (Feb. 27).
The month of March sees Utah hosting two of its last three regular-season games. It begins when Utah hosts Wyoming on March 3. One last road trip has Utah going to Fort Collins, Colo., to play Colorado State (March 5) before coming home to host the season finale against UNLV (March 8).
The MWC Championship begins on March 11 in Las Vegas with first-round match ups. The quarterfinals are on March 12 with semis on March 13 and the championship on March 14.
