SALT LAKE CITY -¬ University of Utah senior Leilani Mitchell has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Mitchell, a Kennewick, Wash., product, single-handedly helped Utah defeat Eastern Michigan in its only game last week. She scored 16 of her team-high 21 points in the second half, tallying her sixth straight double-digit scoring game. Mitchell had 12 of the Utes' final 19 points, making a two-point lead with six minutes left into a 14-point win.
All four of her field goals were three-pointers, where she went 4-for-5. She also went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. In addition to her scoring, she dished out a game-high six assists and also had three rebounds and two steals.
The guard is ranked second overall in the league for scoring, averaging 17.1 points, while her 7.14 assists per game tops the conference charts. This marks Mitchell's fourth weekly honor in the past nine weeks of action.
