SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah point guard Leilani Mitchell has been tabbed Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Week. It marks her fifth such honor on the season.
Mitchell led her team to a pair of victories last week as the Utes prevailed over UNLV and Air Force. Mitchell tallied back-to-back double-doubles, averaging 22.5 points on .485 shooting (16-of-23) and 10 assists. Against the Rebels, the Kennewick, Wash., product led her team with a season-high-tying and game-high 26 points and 10 assists. She scored 20 of her 26 points in the second half, marking her second double-double of the season and her first since conference play started. Mitchell went on to lead all scorers with 19 points and 10 assists against the Falcons, while committing zero turnovers in 39 minutes of action. For the week, the guard recorded 20 assists to only five turnovers (4.00 assist-to-turnover ratio), and led the Utes with five steals while averaging 4.5 rebounds.
She shares this week's award with TCU's freshman guard Helena Sverrisdottir.
Mitchell and the Utes return to action this Saturday when they play at San Diego State. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. (PT).
