The Tipoff
The No. 16/15 University of Utah women's basketball team (24-3 overall, 13-0 Mountain West) will have the heady task of playing its thrid ranked opponent on the season this Sunday. The Utes host No. 24/25 Wyoming in the Huntsman Center with tipoff set for 3 p.m. Utah is on the heels of a record-breaking victory. With the 68-53 win over TCU on Wednesday, Utah won its school-record-breaking 19th straight game. It was the 19-point efforts of Morgan Warburton and Kalee Whipple that propelled the Utes to victory. Jessica Perry tallied 14 points and six boards in the first half to give Utah the 35-25 lead at the break. The Utes haven't been in the loss column since the 62-45 road set back to USC back on Dec. 3. The nationally-ranked Cowgirls come to town with a 23-4 overall mark. They are currently all alone in second place with an 11-3 conference tally. Last time out, Wyoming hammered Colorado State, 68-46.

Scouting the Opponent
Wyoming is the defending WNIT Champion, having won the title on its floor with a 75-56 win over Wisconsin last march. The Cowgirls have been nationally ranked most of the season. They fell out of both polls on Feb. 18, but returned to the AP's No. 24 spot and to ESPN/USA Today's No. 25 spot on Feb. 25. The team comes to town with a 23-4 overall mark and it is in second place in the MWC with a record of 11-3. A trio of players average double-figure points, led by All-America candidate Hanna Zavecz (13.6 points). Justyna Podziemska (13.1) and Aubrey Vandiver (11.3) are also among the team's top scoring threats. Vandiver's 5.9 boards per game lead all Cowgirl players. Joe Legerski, a former Ute assistant, is in his fifth season at the helm in Wyoming. He is 98-52 as its head coach. His nephew is current Utah assistant, Matt Legerski.
A Brief Look at the Series
Utah and Wyoming will meet for the 63rd time in their respective histories. The Utes are 54-8 all-time versus the Cowgirls. Up until last year, Utah had won 30 straight over Wyoming. But, the Cowgirls earned a one-point 56-55 win in Laramie in February, 2007, and they also won the second meeting in Salt Lake, 62-53, the ensuing March. The most recent clash was in Laramie in January. It saw Utah rally for the 60-59 win on Morgan Warburton's three with three seconds left. The Utes are 27-2 against the Cowgirls all-time in Salt Lake City. Only two of the meetings have ever gone to overtime, and both of them were in Laramie. The Utes bagged an 82-79 double-overtime victory in February, 2005, and a 69-67 overtime win in March, 2006.
Who's Got Next Game?
The final road date is up next as Utah plays at Colorado State on March 5. Tipoff in Moby Arena is set for 7 p.m. The regular season finale follows when UNLV comes to town on March 8.
