SALT LAKE CITY - After five seasons on the bench with the University of Utah women's basketball team, associate head coach Carolyn DeHoff has accepted the head coaching job at North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D.
"I'm very excited for Carolyn," said head coach Elaine Elliott. "This is a great opportunity for her first head coaching job. She's a hard-working, loyal and amazing co-worker. People like that are always hard to replace."
She was introduced as North Dakota State's ninth head women's basketball coach in the program's 44-year history at a press conference Friday afternoon. DeHoff replaces Women's Basketball Hall of Fame coach Amy Ruley, who resigned in March to accept an associate athletic director for development position at North Dakota State. Ruley compiled a 671-198 record in 29 seasons at NDSU including five NCAA Division II national championships.
DeHoff has been on the Utah bench for the last five years, coaching the point guards and overseeing recruiting, among other duties. Her first four seasons at Utah were as an assistant coach, and she was promoted to associate head coach just last season.
During her stay in Salt Lake City, the Utes won 123 games, three regular season conference championships and one MWC tournament title. Utah made three trips to the NCAA tournament including an Elite Eight berth in 2006 and a WNIT appearance in 2007. The Utes also had a pair of WNBA first round draft picks, along with second round pick in this year's draft.
Prior to Utah, DeHoff spent five seasons at Weber State and seven seasons at Wyoming, both as an assistant coach.
DeHoff is a 1991 graduate of Arizona State University where she was a Pac-10 All-Star and a Dean's List student. She was also an All-American basketball player at East High in Chyenne, Wyo.
