SALT LAKE CITY - Former Utah player Lana Sitterud, who spent the last two seasons as Utah's Director of Operations/Graduate Assistant, has accepted a position as an assistant women's basketball coach here at the U. Sitterud's primary focus will be on recruiting.
"Lana is a bright, young star in the coaching ranks right now," said head coach Elaine Elliott. "I'm glad she's remaining in the fold as an assistant on our staff."
Sitterud spent the last two seasons on the Utah staff, handling all of the team's travel in addition to on-floor coaching duties. She replaces Carolyn DeHoff who accepted a head-coaching job at North Dakota State on April 11.
"This is a program I believe in," said the 2006 Utah grad. "The circumstances just worked out for me, and it was the right move for me to make. I'm extremely privileged to have this opportunity."
Sitterud was a four-year player for the Utes from 2001-2005, serving as a team captain for three seasons. She played in 123 games during her Utah career, making 46 starts. For her career, she averaged 6.4 points and 2.5 rebounds a game.
As a senior in 2004-05, Sitterud was named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year. She was also named third-team All-MWC during her final collegiate season. Sitterud averaged 9.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game as a senior. She was also a prolific three-point shooter, finishing 2004-05 with a .400 percentage from behind the arc. Sitterud tied a Jon M. Huntsman Center record with seven three-pointers made in a 2004 game against TCU.
The Highland, Utah, native holds a bachelor's degree in communications from Utah, and she is currently pursuing a master's degree in school counseling.
