Complete 2008-09 Women's Basketball Schedule
SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's basketball team has released its final 2008-09 schedule with the unveiling of the Mountain West Conference portion of the season. The conference also released the broadcast schedule, which places the Utes on television nine times throughout the year.
"The television schedule represents the respect our program has earned," head coach Elaine Elliott said. "It gives us great exposure which continues to be of great importance on the national scene."
Utah begins its defense of its 2008 MWC regular-season title at Wyoming on Wednesday, Jan. 7. The Utes then play back-to-back home games, taking on San Diego State (Jan. 11) and Air Force (Jan. 14). A road trip to Colorado State (Jan. 17) and a home game against UNLV (Jan. 24) lead up to a meeting with in-state rival BYU in Provo on Jan. 28.
Games at New Mexico (Feb. 1) and home against TCU (Feb. 4) complete the first half of the conference schedule. The second half begins at home against Wyoming (Feb. 8) before road games at SDSU (Feb. 11) and Air Force (Feb. 14). Utah returns home against Colorado State on Feb. 18 before taking a week off, facing UNLV on Feb. 25. BYU (Feb. 28) and New Mexico (March 4) finish out the home schedule before the team closes out the regular season at TCU (March 7).
Utah will play on television nine times this season, more than any other team in the MWC. The mtn. will televise six of the Utes games during the year, beginning with Louisville (Nov. 25) and Mississippi State (Dec. 20) during the non-conference schedule. Games at Wyoming (Jan. 7) and home contests against SDSU (Jan. 11), TCU (Feb. 4) and BYU (Feb. 28) will also be on The mtn. In addition, Utah will be on CBS College Sports for three games - at New Mexico (Feb. 1) and TCU (March 7) and home vs. Wyoming (Feb. 8).
The conference schedule completes the previously announced non-conference schedule, which is highlighted by 2008 NCAA tournament teams Jackson State, Louisville and Virginia. In all, the Utes will play five teams from a "BCS" affiliated conference, three defending conference champions and another six teams that were in the top three of their respective conference.
Game times will be announced as they are finalized.
