Scouting New Mexico
Utah and New Mexico will be playing for a tie for first place, as the Lobos come into the game with a 5-1 record in Mountain West Conference play (16-3 overall). The Lobos only loss of the conference campaign came to San Diego State (57-52 on Jan. 21).
Amy Beggin is averaging 15.7 points per game while Angela Hartill is scoring at an 11.7 points per game clip. Amanda Adamson leads New Mexico with 6.6 rebounds per game and also has 8.3 points per game.
Last Time Out
A strong second half propelled Utah to a 63-55 victory over Brigham Young on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
Although BYU took a six-point lead in the first few minutes of the game before Katie King scored the Utes first basket at the 16:41 mark, Utah quickly caught up and the two teams battled through the first half to a 27-27 tie. The Utes scored the final five points of the first half to carry the momentum into the locker room.
The Utes opened the second half with a 10-0 run and extended into a 17-6 surge to take a 44-33 lead with 13:12 remaining - their largest lead of the game. Morgan Warburton had six points of the Utah's first 10, while King also had six points during the drive.
BYU continued to battle down the stretch. With Utah up 58-48 with three minutes remaining, the Cougars went on a 7-0 run that was capped by a layup from Keilani Moeaki to cut the lead to three with 44 seconds left, 58-55. However, The Utes scored the final five points of the game - including a steal and layup from Janita Badon with 12 seconds left - to pull ahead for the 63-55 victory.

The Warburton-Whipple Combo
Morgan Warburton and Kalee Whipple are arguably the best wing combo in the Mountain West Conference. The women are the only two in the conference to have reached 1,000 career points.
The duo rank first and second, respectively, in the MWC in scoring. Warburton (18.7 ppg) ranks 23rd in the country in scoring. She is also ranked fourth in the country in free-throw percentage (91.8, 89-of-97). She has scored at least 20 points in eight games this season. Whipple (16.7 ppg) ranks third in the conference in steals (2.53 per game). She is the only player in the MWC to have three 30+ point games this year.
Both girls hit the 500 career rebound mark this season - Whipple against Westminster and Warburton vs. Santa Clara.
