SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team begins the final stretch of the regular season at UNLV on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7:00 p.m. (PT). The game is available on radio at 1280 AM.
Utah (18-7, 11-1 MWC) continues to hold a two-game lead in the Mountain West Conference following a bye over the weekend. The Utes are followed by TCU (10-3) and San Diego State (9-3). Four games remain for the Utah.
UNLV is 10-16 on the year, 3-10 in the conference. The Rebels have lost their last four games, but are coming off a close 53-52 loss to BYU on Feb. 21. Shamela Hampton leads UNLV with 14.2 points per game and is second on the team with 8.7 rebounds per game. Erica Helms (10.7 ppg) and Jamie Smith (10.1 ppg) are also averaging in double figure scoring. Smith leads UNLV in rebounds (8.9) and blocks (20).
Utah won the first meeting between the two teams, 67-50 in Salt Lake City on Jan. 24.
In their last game, the Utes dominated Colorado State for the second time this season, with a 74-45 win on Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the Huntsman Center.
Kalee Whipple and Morgan Warburton combined for 51 points, with Whipple scoring 24 and Warburton tallying 27. Warburton also had seven rebounds. Halie Sawyer just missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
Warburton was named MWC Player of the Week for the fourth time this season for her efforts against the Rams.
